Advances in inclusion policies in higher education have had an impact on the increase in the enrollment of people with disabilities, especially since the enactment of Law No. 13.409 of December 28, 2016, which established reservations for vacancies in technical courses at secondary and higher levels of federal educational institutions. Despite this, in the physical spaces of Brazilian university campuses, there are still many gaps regarding the orientation and mobility of people with visual impairments (SARMENTO, 2017; SILVEIRA, 2019), a condition that makes the wayfinding process difficult, that is, the navigability of the environment for these people. Based on this understanding, this research questions how the planning of university campuses can incorporate knowledge about the wayfinding processes of people with visual impairments in order to improve the environmental quality of these areas. It is hypothesized that the study of the relationship between the mechanisms of perception/cognition and the main environmental attributes required by people with visual impairments on campuses can contribute to create wayfinding guidelines for the use of these spaces by this specific audience, which will be useful to the general public. Therefore, the objective is to investigate the wayfinding processes of people with visual impairments in three university campuses of federal institutions of higher education in the Northeast of Brazil (UFC, UFPB and UFRN), in order to foster discussions that can support the planning processes with a view to improve the navigability of these spaces. As research participants, the following will be recruited: (i) professionals from the physical space planning sectors working on campuses and (ii) people with visual impairments in two conditions: linked to institutions (students, teachers and employees) and not linked to institutions (community people). The investigation method will consist of semi-structured interviews, focus groups (remote), annotated routes (THIBAUD, 2001) and accompanied walks (DISCHINGER, 2000)
