SUMMARY:

The elaboration of fire safety projects in Brazil is in the responsibility of civil engineers and architects, but the gap in the schooling system of the latter when it comes to active safety measures is notorious, which often results in projects with incompatibility between the architectural program and active security systems. However, the architect, as a decisive agent in the demands of the program, must have the autonomy and capacity to analyze and decide on which active measures that will generate adequate levels of safety for each building according to its program. The present work has as a study object the interactions between the active fire safety systems with the architectural program, and its general objective is to indicate parameters of the architectural program that influence the anticipation of the active demands of fire safety in the designed space. As a universe of study, there are the projects of buildings of the “cashand-carry” type, designed for implementation in the State of Rio Grande do Norte after the approval of Ordinance N° 346/18, which refers to the application of technical requirements and safety measures fire and panic prevention. The methodology of the work is based on bibliographic reviews and case studies, with analysis of projects of the cash-and-carry type of buildings. In loco assessments were also carried out in buildings that fit same commercial groups and that serve for the same use as those analyzed in the project, but those are already in operation. The analyzes were carried out in the light of parameters of the architectural program and its relationship with fire safety variables. It was possible to identify inconsistencies between the active fire safety measures and the designed space, where post-project adjustments had to be made, harming the full execution of the original architectural program, and leaving openings for solutions that were not suitable for the use of the building.
