SUMMARY:

The expressive number of housing units offered by housing programs, such as the one called Minha Casa, Minha Vida (PMCMV), created in 2009, and the more recent Casa Verde e Amarela (2021), has shown to be of low quality according to architectural and functional criteria. . Among the main problems is the disregard of family dynamics in the projects of social housing (HIS), based on standardized plans and replicated for years by construction companies, generating inadequacies that directly impact the functionality of housing spaces. In view of this scenario, this dissertation proposes to answer the following research question: To what extent, the HIS of the metropolitan region of João Pessoa (PB) delivered, between 2011 and 2022, are adequate to the residents, considering the parameters of architectural functional quality?. Thus, the general objective of the research is to analyze the architectural quality of HIS in João Pessoa, PB, with an emphasis on the functional aspect of the housing delivered, in the metropolitan region, between the years 2011 and 2022. The methodological strategy adopted starts from the configuration of the physical arrangement of spaces based on functional activities and on the analysis of space-functional adequacy through an adaptation of the method developed by Pedro (2000). As partial results, there was an increase in the performance of the solutions over the years, in particular a growth in the space-functional adequacy of the dwellings of Residencial Pedra do Reino (2020) and Residencial Josemir Mendes (2021), with the latter value quantifiable value of 2.15, which corresponds to a recommended solution according to the descriptors of the Pedro method (2000).
