SUMMARY:

Faced with the situation of neglect and relative abandonment in which part of the public areas are located in Natal / RN, young people, especially residents of peripheral regions, have been looking for ways to claim their rights through the expression of their arts and (re) occupation of spaces considered unusable by the population and / or that are obliterated by the State. As explained, a significant part of these movements is dedicated to requiring better living conditions in the city, as is the case with rap battles. Thus, the object of study is about the emergence of new strategies of urban struggle and the forms of production and appropriation of the urban common. In this perspective, the main objective of this thesis is to understand the influence of contemporary activisms of urban resistance in the (re) production and resignification of spaces for collective life in Natal / RN, in order to feed the discussions regarding the interference of these actors in the new configurations of the contemporary city and the performance on them. The research is justified by the current need for studies on the recent forms of activism and its consequences for public areas, especially in the current political situation in Brazil, which, on the one hand, points to the disregard of traditional politics as a means of transforming the spaces of cities and, on the other hand, towards a tendency to criminalize these practices in the production of space. The motivation for the approach comes from the empirical observation of the author and his experience with street collectives. The intended discussion will take place around the conceptual framework of contemporary social ativismos, the urban common and the theory of social production of space. It is based on contributions from authors, among others, such as: Marcelo Lopes de Souza (1988), Maria da Gloria Gohn (2011), Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri (2014), Joao Bosco Tonucci Filho (2017), Charles Tilly (2010), Sidney Tarrow (2009), Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval (2017), David Harvey (2014), Henri Lefebvre (2006), Mark Gottdiener (1997), and Ana Fani Carlos (2011), who contribute to discussions more general; and Glaucie Coelho and Emika Takaki (2009) and Laudenides dos Santos and Silvia Ortigoza (2017), who contribute to a more specific debate on the topic addressed. This is a qualitative research, in which the methodological approach adopted seeks to combine the precepts established by the method of “Actor-network theory”, by Latour (2012), with a perspective of “Digital Anthropology”, by Miller and Horst ( 2012), using various techniques, such as participant observation, interviews, questionnaires, data collection and map making. Finally, the preliminary studies carried out already point to an interpretation of these collectives as promoters of new ways of thinking about urban planning in contemporary society, especially from the creation of networks of solidarity, sharing of knowledge and contexts of life, of appropriation collective and self-management.
