SUMMARY:

Currently, two themes stand out in studies and research on the city: international migratory movements and the experience of otherness. The insertion of diverse social and ethnic groups in a space directly and indirectly impacts commercial activities, the socio-cultural system, occupation patterns, the production and image of the space. As a result, this study seeks to investigate the city-immigration relationship, seeking to know the urban experiences of both immigrants and people who already live and transit daily in the various spaces of the city. Therefore, the objective is to analyze the urban experiences of immigrants in João Pessoa, knowing their dynamics of occupation, identifying activities and daily practices, detecting identity manifestations in the light of impact indicators (mobility, work, housing and leisure and cultural habits). Empirically, this investigation focuses on the city of João Pessoa, in which it is possible to perceive the presence of two groups of immigrants in different areas: the Chinese in the central area and the Venezuelans in the South Zone. The methodological proposal, of a qualitative character, besides from field observation as the primary source of data collection, the semi-structured interview and, in the Venezuelan case, the theater workshop using the technique of the Theater of the Oppressed by Augusto Boal as the privileged source of information. From this study, it was possible to perceive the differences between the condition of immigrants and refugees among the working publics, to understand how they adapt to the new reality in the capital of Paraíba, to broaden the understanding about the effects produced by these two presences in different areas of the city, to understand their migratory contexts and particularities that configure different modes of alterity, in addition to encouraging new research paths in the field of Architecture and Urbanism.
