SUMMARY:

The proposed thesis presents a discussion of collaborative buildings design process to meeting environment performance goals and it is inserted in the multidisciplinary context, between the fields of architectural design and building technology, focusing in environmental performance. The obligation to meet these goals has become popular in countries that adopted environmental impact reduction strategies, influencing the design processes in various ways, especially in the organization of collaborative processes. The main gaps involve interaction between team members. The designer needs to incorporate in the project the information passed by the consultant during the initial phases of the project, when the performance impact is higher, but the consultant can only evaluate the project with detailed information, usually, at the end of the design process. A whole system design approach is needed so that the project is thought as a whole without the predominance of a single aspect. However, it is not clear how the flows of this information fit to the process and how designers make decisions, in face of requirements that are imposed to them. The research question is "How the design process can be conducted to making collaboration easier between designers and consultants and to meet environmental performance goals, without prejudice to the other variables that are involved in design decisions?". The hypothesis is that the design process to meet termoenergetic and luminous performance goals should pursue, since the early design phases, a more intense collaboration between designers and consultants and the adoption of a systemic approach to improve the decision-making basis. The purpose of this is the means that facilitates the designer-consultative relationship in collaborative architectural design processes to meet environmental performance goals. The methodological procedures make use of three complementary approaches, the first focuses on the characterization of the forms of interaction and the dialogue between the consultant and the designer in the design processes aimed at meeting environmental performance goals in Brazil, from the consultant's point of view. The second is a pilot study of a controlled study, intensive use of environmental performance simulation tools and the third is a specific case study that is important for the project. The first approach used a questionnaire and for the last two were conducted a content analysis to identify the stages of the selection process, information about the change processes, the influence of the organization on the process and the factors that influence the systemic approach in the process, through document analysis and interviews with team architects and consultants. The results show that although the questionnaire indicated a recurrent use of simulation in consultancies, the qualitative approach can be used by experienced professionals, for example, by considering the bioclimatic guidelines at the beginning of the process, as occurred in the case study. It was also possible to realize that the charrette, proposed as a project method for the case study, helped the development of the systemic approach, which was understood as fundamental for meeting the performance goals from the earliest stages of the design process. It concludes the greater collaboration between the teams, with less requirement for computational use in conventional processes and with greater vision to reduce barriers and increase the potentialities of a larger type of process. Thus, data from this systematic approach collaborative process planning session as an appropriate path to meeting environmental performance goals such as the early stages of the project.
