Architecture, fear and city: a case study in the neighborhood of Neópolis in Natal/RN
Architecture, fear, cities, urban violence, architecture of fear.
This study presents a reflection on the architecture of fear based on urban violence and its reflexes on the city. The purpose of this paper is to record how the architecture of fear manifests itself in the city of Natal / RN, exemplifying the type of architecture that has been growing. With the high crime rate, potiguar municipality has been growing in the polls, and currently ranks 4th among a ranking of 50 most violent cities in the world. The immediate consequence of this is a frightened population that is increasingly locked up and fleeing the conviviality of the city's public spaces. Therefore, it is important to discuss the issue of morphological changes that have been taking place in the city from the architecture of fear, since this process has brought about the increase of urban segregation and negative transformations in the shape and landscape of cities. What we can infer is that our city is also being modified from this perspective, thus producing a functional and formal pattern, which is in fact growing not only in Natal, but in most Brazilian cities.
