RESUMO:
This research is based on two main questions about the conceptual structural design associated with the learning architectural design process in the studio environment. The first one is how it happens in teaching architecture, space in undergraduate courses, the second is how this could be improved in the atelier. The aim hypotheses are there are teaching methods that contribute to these integrations, for example, the use of physical models as representation tool, also as design of architectural space and structure. In this sense, the methodological procedures were organized in five steps. First, the theoretical and conceptual referential will be developed, as well as Architecture course curriculum analysis that are good samples in Structure teaching. After, the analysis of two Architecture atelier disciplines, through the course plan, the observation of this process, the students collectively and professor individual interviews, and at last, the student’s project analysis. Thereafter, we intend to accomplish two structural design workshops by using physical models and puzzles. Lastly, discussion and suggestion of the results, and final considerations. This work presents the Research Project and the preliminary chapters that will compose the Qualification volume as part of the doctoral requirements of the Postgraduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. In summary, the expectation is this research could contribute to benefit the conceptual structural design teaching in Architecture courses, more specifically in a design studio.
