RESUMO:

Nowadays, two themes stand out in studies and research about the city: contemporary international migratory movements and the experience of otherness. The insertion of diversified social and ethnic groups in one place impacts directly and indirectly on the commercial activities that take place there, in the sociocultural system, in patterns of occupation and in the production and image of space. As a result, this study look for to investigate the relationship between city and immigrants, seeking to know their mutual influences, the effects they have produced, what are the urban experiences of both immigrants and people who already live and transit in these spaces. The objective is, therefore, to identify the urban experiences produced in places where the city-immigrant relationship is evident and to analyze the interdependence between the two. Empirically, this research focuses on the city of João Pessoa, where it is possible to perceive the presence of two groups of immigrants in different areas: the Chinese in the Center and the Africans / Caribbean in the South Zone. The methodological proposal, of a qualititative nature, besides of field observation as a primary source of data collection, will take as a privileged source of information the perception of immigrants, a strategy inspired by the Method of the Itineraries proposed by the Center de Recherche sur l'Espace Sonore & l'Environnement Urbain (CRESSON), laboratory AAU (Ambiances architectures urbanités) of the National School of Architecture of Grenoble / France. It consists of a shared experience between the researcher and the collaborating subject; while the second becomes a specific route guide; the first (researcher) listens, records and photographs the narrative, documenting the experience of this itinerary. With this, a narrative is produced that simultaneously articulates the collaborator's speech to the image of the researcher. No less than 10 and no more than 30 immigrants contacted in the city will participate in the investigation. Based on this study in João Pessoa, it is expected to broaden our understanding of the effects produced by the presence of the immigrant in the experience of alterity in our cities - as in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba - as well as incite new research paths in the field of Architecture and Urbanism.
