RESUMO:

From the second half of the twentieth century, architecture and urbanism watched to scenery changes that reverberated in professional practice. The modernist thought received severe critics, awakening the rethinking on issues like the rationalism and the excessive functionalism and the distancing of the arts. In addition, global economic reconfiguration has stimulated the transposition of corporate strategic planning into the urban sphere. This is a new way of city management, which gave a new centrality to the urban and architectural icons. Both conjunctures are admitted in this work as influences on the consolidation of the contemporary branding architecture – and its public recognition –, characterized by exclusive processes that permeates all stages of its production. Although the bibliographies on the subject are in constant renewal, updating concepts, pointing out the names of the architects and their works that promote the spectacle, and analyzing the urban developments that followed the construction of these, there is still a lack in the study of those responsible for the production in question. We refer specifically to the aspects of education and performance of these professionals, about which, we ask: what common elements stand out in the formation process and in the strategies of these professionals responsible for the spectacle of architecture that have contributed to raise their works to the condition of architectural brands? The main objective of this study is, therefore, to verify the existence of coincident points in the trajectories of architects of the contemporary star system, that may indicate a pattern of actions among them. For this, the methodological procedures performed were mainly bibliographical and documentary research, from which the names of the 37 architecture offices under analysis and the information about their formation and performance were extracted; in sequence, a database was developed, which allowed comparing all the trajectories, showing their similarities and differences.
