RESUMO:

This research assesses the glare effect as a main cause of daylight inhibition in office buildings at Natal-RN (Brazil), and it recommends simplified design rules in accordance with occupants’ preferences. The architectural features concerns as windows-to-wall-ratio (WWR), visible sky factor (VSF) and daylight zone depth, and the users’ profiles are classified in active, passive and intermediate. The procedures consist in the determination of the windows systems, field study for user evaluation in loco and daylight dynamic simulation. The determination of the windows systems are based on an office room of 4.00m x 7.00m, with the window-to-wall-ratio (WWR) of 40%, 60% and 80%, in Solar Tool software (MARSH, 2010), observing the  protection of direct solar radiation during the occupancy schedule (8:00 to 17:00) and the view sky factor (VSF). The field research consists in case studies, commissioning, survey research, monitoring, measurements and complementary survey to users. The main goal of this phase is to identify user interaction profiles with the shading systems, theirs preferences and tolerances to the daylight levels. Due to the large variability of daylight indexes and aiming to improve the modeling process, it is used the dynamic daylight simulation in the software Diva-for-Rhino (SOLEMMALLC, 2016), integrated to parametric modeling in Grasshopper software (RUTTEN, 2015), with the dynamic metrics analysis of useful daylight illuminance (UDI) between 500lux and 5000lux and daylight glare probability (DGP). The graphic outputs that are used: decay curve, UDI isolines, DGP false color images, DGP rendered images and annual DGP profile. The partial results demonstrate that the type and dimension of shading system has a direct relation with the PAF and FCV. Small openings must have smaller systems, therefore with higher FCV, intermediate openings must have an intermediate FCV and big openings must have larger shading systems to guarantee a good shadowing. The dynamic daylight software Diva-for-Rhino (SOLEMMALLC, 2016) presents some limitations about the modeling and simulation of user behavior and to the generation of UDI graphical outputs in the threshold of 500lux to 5000lux for dynamic blinds.
