RESUMO:

Discussion about professional formation in Architecture and Urbanism is not new, more and more reflection points are opened every day. It is necessary a continuous discussion about profiles and patterns that ensure professional’s qualification – architect and urbanist – to social, cultural and economical challenges, as seen nowadays. Among those challenges, is notorious the issue of heritage area and built preservation. In Brazil, some recent thoughts about that specific architecture project show a performance, many times, characterized by wil and total absence of methodological rigidity (Kühl, 2006, p.277 ). That discussion is related to the lack of ability of professionals that act on area (specially, architects and urbanists), and also is related to these professionals formation. In that context, the object of study of this research corresponds to an analysis of heritage preservation teaching, within all Architecture and Urbanism degree courses in Brazil specifically in Brazilian Northeast, and to the construction of theoretical-methodological bases for the future professional’s formation, whose will develop projects of architectural intervention in buildings with patrimonial value. Architecture and urbanism degree courses should make possible a professional formation that reveals competences and abilities in several areas, in which stands out the architectural intervention in buildings and areas of patrimonial value. Besides, the fundamental subject of this research is: which group of knowledge and activities will guarantee the development of competences and expected abilities so that the professional-to-be acts conscious of responsibilities of intervening in preexistent with preservation interest? Specially because, in Brazil, it is not demanded from the professional acting in patrimonial preservation field a specialization in the area. Methodological procedures to reaching the objectives presented in this theory project are divided in: Research and study of bibliographical references; Documental research; and local research in three institutions: Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) and Università degli Studi “Gabriele d’Annunzio” di Chieti, Pescara, in Italy. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the studies on theme of intervention projects in buildings with recognized patrimonial value, specially, to a reflection of an academic formation that is able to prepare the professionals-to-be to act in this area.
