RESUMO:

The architectural design and its guidelines are not always faithfully executed. Through observations based on practical field of the profession, it was noted that there are often changes in executive architectural designs during the stage of construction. Often, such changes cause many obstacles, as: change of complementary projects for compliance with the new architecture, halting execution until the final resolution of the design, material waste, extra work of hand labor, additives in contracts execution, among others. Thus, we formulate the question problem: Why are executive architectural designs are often modified during works execution, especially in the public sector, and what factors are responsible for these changes? As a possible answer to this question, it has formulated the hypothesis that technical order factors, financial and temporal generally related to the management of the design process, explain the reasons why executive architectural designs are modified during construction. The central campus of UFRN, located in Natal, was chosen as spatial area by the amount and diversity of new buildings, thus, since 2008, REUNI resources (Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities) have intensified the expansion of the physical infrastructure of the university. The time frame (2008-2016) was defined according to the types of pieces found in this period, elaborate architectural designs and modified in construction, excluding projects later modified (remodeling). During the analysis, developed based on the literature concerning the matter, on data provided in interviews with professionals involved in the development of architectural design and construction of buildings and also by comparing the executive architectural design with the as built project, it was possible to identify the main factors causing changes in architectural designs, occurred in the works execution, allowing far, partial confirmation of the research hypothesis.
