RESUMO:

In Tirol and Petrópolis, two neighborhoods in Natal, the constant overthrow or changes in the typology of its buildings is done quickly, concerning directly in a considerable modern architectural acquis of the city, especially the habitations that translates constructive elements characteristics of the 1950s. Part of this production, which counted with the participation of professionals with different backgrounds, still capable of earn recognition. However, despite the existence of some documents, academic studies do not deepen the knowledge on one of these participants: Arialdo Pinho. Born in Rio De Janeiro/RJ, he had professional experiences that forced him to live in many cities of the country. With the domain of his profession technique and significant cultural capital, evade himself from Academy and, once in Natal, becomes a reference of the city residential modernist school. In the search for comprehension of his contribution to the cultural patrimony built in the city, a research question emerges:  With the personal, intellectual and professional course of practical Arialdo Pinho in the modernist architecture can be perceived and registered in the historiographic evolution of the built patrimony? This point raises other supplementary questions: How these paths materialized in existing housing enterprises found in Tirol and Petropolis? And how Arialdo Pinto inserts his production among architects with background in higher education? The importance of this knowledge induces assumptions such as: (i) Arrive in Natal at the after-War, Arialdo Pinho finds an unique environment to implement his modern architecture projects, since, there wasn’t representants of this category with academic degree executing services of this complexity; (ii) his bond with local elite allowed him to exercise his profession with recognition to the point to influence new clients, who perceived the news intrinsic to its projectual contribution; (iii) the rupture of his production in Natal and the consequent departure to Fortaleza also give rise to relations that he had with architects and town planners, who were establishing as a corporate class, in a moment in which the requirement to formal development activity took shape in the country. In this perceptive outline, configures as study object: The professional vicissitudes and the practical architecture documentation. In its turn, it is determined and general objective: To understand the importance of practical Arialdo Pinho and his contribution to Natal’s (modernist) architecture, contemplating his trajectory through the audiovisual, in order to know, preserve and revive the memory. The Specific objectives thus are shown: Understand the role of practical in the spatial constitution of the city through its built patrimony; Contextualize the circumstances that led him to be one of the pioneers of modernist school in Natal, whose production still consists a considerable acquis in favorable conditions of recognition; Foster a new look for the reconfiguration of spaces, in a historical temporal perspective and disseminate the documentary register aiming to contribute to the achievement of its importance in the history perception. The results of the rapid physical restructuring of the built environment culminates with the consequent loss of these references, increased by the lack of knowledge by the owners of these habitations – and inhabitants in general-, plus the absence of effective actions from protective public agencies regarding those properties. In such a way that, theoretical contribution that guided the research is based on contributions to memory, patrimony and to the audiovisual. Concludes that audiovisual resources allowed to satisfactorily reunite diversified sources, bringing to the discussion characters, facts, memories and recollections, especially unknown, forgotten or little exploited in its plenitude, for the understanding of the pathways treaded by Arialdo Pinho.
