RESUMO:

The evolution of the use and development of construction materials and it´s relation with architecture was relevant for the urban population grow and consequently the grow of the cities. Along this process, the natural environment became gradually deteriorated and threatened by environmental impact as the urban expansion is associated with industrial sector growth. On this context, the continued grow of urban population induce the human been to a proportional growing need of houses resulting on. Nowadays is possible to see the new researches on national and international scenario that seeks alternative materials for traditional ones, especially biomass residue, vegetal fibers and resin, in the search of decrease the problems previously cited. This research aims the development and investigation of viability of use particleboard of pineapple leaf fiber – PALF – and biodegradable resin for architectural components, as lining, sealing panel, partitions and thermal/luminal control elements. In Brazil researches with this characteristics are growing, as it´s a large country with huge vegetal cover with agricultural purposes, which produces great amount of biomass waste. About the pineapple, this country is one of the largest producers and exporters in the world, and Paraiba and Rio Grande do Norte states are among the greatest producers in the country. About vegetable fibers, the aspect most highlighted by researchers is the competitive relation with synthetic fibers is the low density – about twice lower than glass fiber for example – and associated with it´s nonabrasive nature, allows the incorporation of a larger portion of reinforcement material, inducing superlative mechanical characteristics and lighter products. So, for the development of this study, four stages was delimited, Stage I: Deepening and actualization of theoretical reference material related to the subject and systematization and analysis of collected material; Stage II: Experimental procedure and wording of Doctorate Thesis; Stage III: analysis of particleboard for architectural components and Doctorate Thesis; Stage IV: completion and review of Doctorate Thesis. On the above, can be say that materials made of vegetal fibers and resin, are in present one of the most interesting research area on composite materials. This concern became more evident due the exigencies of legal authorities about the use and waste of synthetic fibers petroleum derivative and better awareness for the need of natural environment and resources preservation.
