SUMMARY:

Learning difficulties in Organic Chemistry faced by high school students occur mainly due to the lack of contextualization of concepts linked to day-to-day life, but also due to the poor connection with other chemical concepts and the difficulty in interpreting chemical language, leading to the need to rethink the pedagogical approach. Therefore, in order to relate the content to an everyday theme, we developed this work based on the Case Study teaching strategy, putting students in contact with real problems to contextualize the chemical content. In this scenario, the objective was to apply and investigate the Case Study teaching strategy for the study of Hydrocarbons, Alcohols and Esters from the fuel theme, so that students develop skills with the intention of recognizing and differentiating organic functions, being able to relate the content studied with everyday situations. The research was developed from a qualitative approach, following a protocol approved by the Research Ethics Committee. The application took place at the Berilo Wanderley State School, located in the city of Natal/RN, where four investigative cases were produced and applied to a 3rd grade class at Potiguar High School, through a sequence of 8 classes that involved a prior knowledge questionnaire, reading and discussion of the cases, guided research, preparation of a logbook and culminated in the production of videos by the students with the enactment of the cases and the solutions proposed by the groups. The pre-analysis data indicates that many students were unaware of the Fuels theme or had incomplete ideas arising from common sense, however, throughout the research they developed learning that was identified by Bardin's Content Analysis. As an Educational Product, we propose a page on the social network Instagram as a tool for disseminating the Case Study strategy and with audiovisual productions created by students.
