SUMMARY:
The use of textbooks in schools serves as an important support tool for teachers, as it provides a foundation for deepening the subjects studied. However, in youth and adult education (EJA), this support is often unavailable, making it necessary for the teacher to develop their own materials. Additionally, evening class time is usually limited, a situation often related to the location of schools, many of which are in vulnerable, low-income neighborhoods, which makes the teaching and learning process more difficult. In this context, this project aims to develop instructional material for teaching Chemistry to a first-year high school EJA class, based on Cognitive Load Theory. The core principle of this theory is that human cognitive processing is limited by the reduced capacity of working memory, which can handle only a limited amount of information at once. Many students arrive in class tired after a long day of work. Therefore, it is important to present content in a simple and objective way, avoiding the loss of essential information. The project will also include practical lessons for making eco-friendly soap using used cooking oil, since most students use this product but do not know how to dispose of it properly. Through this activity, we aim to help and raise awareness in the school community about reusing oil in order to prevent environmental contamination.
