SUMMARY:

This study is situated within the field of Chemistry Education and discusses the learning process of the nomenclature of oxygen-containing organic compounds in high school. Within this context, a cooperative and gamified teaching and learning approach is proposed and investigated through the educational game Quimímica, which incorporates principles of the Jigsaw cooperative learning technique as part of its internal mechanics. Rather than being presented as a separate stage preceding the game, the Jigsaw technique constitutes an integral component of the same instructional proposal. The approach is structured into interconnected phases, including Expert Preparation, in which subgroups formed from the original base groups engage in an in-depth study of a specific organic functional group; a second stage in which students return to their original groups to teach the other members, referred to as Socialization within the Base Groups; and, finally, the Mime Activity, a playful activity based on cards and timed miming, without the use of speech, writing, or drawing, facilitated by the student who previously acted as the expert. The educational product was implemented in a 12th-grade class at a state public school in the municipality of Aquiraz, Ceará, Brazil, involving 45 students. Research data were collected through diagnostic and perception instruments administered to students before and after the intervention, complemented by records produced by the expert groups themselves throughout the activity. At the current stage of the investigation, responses to the perception instrument have been subjected to descriptive analysis, examining the aspects addressed in each question, selecting representative responses, and quantifying the frequency of similar responses among students. Analysis of the remaining instruments is planned for a subsequent stage of the research. Preliminary results from the perception instrument suggest evidence of student engagement in peer-teaching stages and participation in the proposed playful activity. Given the ongoing nature of the research and the qualitative nature of the study, these findings provide elements that may contribute to reflections on cooperative and gamified strategies for teaching the nomenclature of organic compounds, while also indicating possible directions for subsequent stages of the investigation.
