SUMMARY:

This research is being developed in the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Teaching (PPGECM) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), linked to the line of research Learning, Teaching and Training of Science and Mathematics Teachers (PPGECM). In the Psychosemiotics of Sálmina, the teaching of the Semiotic Function is recognized as a condition for the developmental learning of Mathematics in the school context. For this teaching, a Professional Teaching Readiness is required to organize and manage, consciously and intentionally, teaching activities of the Semiotic Function that favor mathematical learning and the development of students' Mathematical Thinking. Notwithstanding this importance, several studies have shown difficulties for teachers for this purpose. This research aims to characterize the Professional Readiness of teachers who teach Mathematics in the early years of Elementary School for the teaching of the Semiotic Function in Mathematics classes, according to the systemic, theoretical and methodological perspective, discussed by Núñez (2025), based on the application of the Psychology Activity Approach to teaching professionalism (P. Ya. Galperin, N. F. Talízina, Z. Reshetova, N. Nechaev) and in the Psychosemiotics of N. G. Salmina. This allowed us to define the Readiness category as a complex system integrated by five subsystems (onto-epistemological, semantic-representational, operational-didactic, motivational-evaluative and reflective- regulatory), which, integrated, determine its characteristics. As for the methodology, of a qualitative nature, a set of theoretical and empirical methods and statistical procedures is used. The data collection instruments were the free word association test, a pedagogical test, a questionnaire of formative needs and observation. The data collection took place in 1 (one) meeting held with 49 teachers from the Municipal Department of Education of Limoeiro do Norte-CE. The data will be analyzed based on protocols of analysis of categorization of the responses in the light of the theoretical framework adopted and statistical procedures for the quantitative data based on the systemic nature of the category professional readiness to which the necessary subsystems are integrated to configure a totality.
