CB - CUSTOMIZATION AND SUSTAINABILITY IN THE HANDBAG INDUSTRY:
AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO CREATING UNIQUE PRODUCTS
On-Demand Customization; Sustainability; Inventory Management
In the fashion sector, particularly within the accessories segment, challenges related to personalization and sustainability are key points for meeting consumers' growing demand for unique products with lower environmental impact. This research aims to explore a business model for the handbag industry focused on on-demand customization and sustainable practices, addressing critical issues such as inventory management and material utilization. From this perspective, the objective is to develop a system that allows customers to personalize their handbags, ensuring exclusivity while reducing the need for fixed inventory. The methodology is applied, with an exploratory and qualitative approach, based on literature review and market analysis, complemented by the development of a customization system prototype. The study also considers technological and operational feasibility aspects for implementing this model. Preliminary results from the technical-economic analysis, considering the average ticket of small sustainable and circular fashion businesses, such as thrift stores and eco-friendly brands, as well as seasonal demand for collections, indicate financial infeasibility for the development and maintenance of the customization sales system.
