Preventive Health: Application of Information Technologies
in Management and Monitoring for the Promotion of Quality of Life
Physical activity; Sedentary lifestyle; Chronic diseases; Digital monitoring; Accessibility; User engagement
The increasing sedentary lifestyle of recent decades is one of the main risk factors for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, leading to high costs for healthcare systems. Globally, it is estimated that the treatment of diseases related to sedentarism will generate an annual cost of $27 billion by 2030. In Brazil, around 15% of hospital admissions are attributed to inactivity, representing significant expenses for the healthcare system. In light of this, the present scientific-entrepreneurial research aims to develop a technological solution focused on preventive health through the digital monitoring of physical activities to combat sedentarism and its consequences. The research is applied in nature, with an exploratory approach, integrating prototyping, experimentation, and validation, as well as data collection and business modeling. As a result, the Way of Life (WLF) tool was developed, a personalized health monitoring platform with an intuitive interface and integration with professionals in the field. The WLF platform has three main modules: the Administrator Module, which allows the registration and management of personal trainers, users, and report visualization; the Physical Educator Module, responsible for anamnesis, body assessment, exercise prescription, and performance monitoring; and the User Module, which allows access to prescribed workouts and performance reports. Initial tests of the alpha version of the technology are exploring accessibility tools, indicating that usability and accessibility strategies make the platform easier to use, thus showing potential for greater user engagement.
