SUMMARY:

Comic books can be an effective tool to encourage the habit of reading. However, the consumption of this type of material by its target audience, composed mainly of children and adolescents, has decreased drastically in favor of other audiovisual entertainment media. This phenomenon has contributed to recurrent problems in the classroom, such as difficulties in reading, writing, and integration between verbal and non-verbal discourses. The habit of reading comics - as shown in the course of the research - can help in the development of these skills, promoting a more complete learning. Thus, this project aims to report the experience of using comics as a complementary strategy in the teaching of reading, analysis and content production in the classroom, applied to students of the 7th grade of the Amadeu Araujo Municipal School, in Natal-RN. The proposed pedagogical practice involves the realization of comic book workshops, with emphasis on the study of its textual and visual elements, such as idea, argument, script, drawing, composition, characters, text balloons, comics, publishing and the conception of the final product, whether printed or digital. The main focus is to address the challenges of transdisciplinarity, allowing comics to permeate multiple fields of knowledge. Finally, in addition to the traditional comic, the project also provides for the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), such as cell phones, tablets, computers and software for the creation of comics, with the aim of stimulating students' creativity. As a result, it is expected the formation of new readers and content creators, with an interest in using comics as a means of expression and learning.
