SUMMARY:

Sibaúma (Tibau do Sul/RN) is a quilombola community in Rio Grande do Norte, certified by Fundação Palmares since June 2005. Despite its long genealogical memory and a centuries-old experience of cultural habits and practices transmitted through oral tradition (Cavignac et al., 2006, p.16), the community faces recurrent territorial disputes that weaken its collective memory. The community’s legitimacy is constantly questioned, as evidenced by the irregular removal of archaeological artifacts from Sibaúma de Cima. In response, the community demands that these materials be preserved in a museum within the quilombola territory. Based on this demand, the main objective of this work is to propose a Quilombola Memory Center that highlights the archaeological site, memory, and oral traditions in the valorization of cultural heritage, aiming to reaffirm the historical quilombola presence in this territory. For qualification purposes, this document presents the preliminary study of the proposal, accompanied by a technical report describing the design process, including: theoretical and conceptual references; analysis of design precedents; study of pre-design constraints; and architectural programming. The proposal is grounded in a brief analysis of traditional architectures and an integrated understanding of tangible and intangible heritage, seeking a solution coherent with the local cultural and environmental fabric.
