SUMMARY:

This final course work, presented here in a preliminary version for qualification purposes,
addresses the requalification of the historic building of IFRN Cidade Alta, in Natal-RN, with
an emphasis on thermal comfort, having as its object a preliminary intervention project that
aligns the valorization of the preexisting building with a new use - the Technology in Cultural
Production course. Initially, the historical contextualization of the architectural complex is
presented, highlighting its relevance as a listed heritage site and its role in the urban,
educational and cultural configuration of the neighborhood in which it is located. Then, the
work discusses concepts and theories about requalification and restoration, providing a basis
for the analysis of four studies of design references. The intervention proposals analyzed are
national projects: the Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo, the Caixa Cultural building in
Recife-PE, the Liceu Pasteur - SP, and the Liceu das Artes in Natal-RN. In addition to these
theoretical and empirical foundations, the methodology of the work involves the analysis of
various environmental conditions, legislation and specific technical standards, resulting in a
detailed understanding of the current conditions and potential of the architectural complex.
Based on the results obtained, combined with the knowledge acquired in the course
disciplines, an intervention proposal is drawn up that seeks to balance the preservation of the
historic building with the introduction of contemporary solutions to improve thermal and
acoustic comfort. Subsequently, new buildings were designed that harmoniously dialogue
with the preexisting buildings and meet the new demands of use. Finally, the work
emphasizes the relevance of the theme for interventionist practices in an urban context,
balancing respect for cultural memory with adaptation to modern demands.
