SUMMARY:

Home literacy is understood as the set of practices and experiences related to language, reading, and writing, through which children interact with their parents/caregivers. Despite its relevance, the construction of validated instruments for the Brazilian population is still necessary to understand home literacy practices. This study presents a methodological, quantitative, and cross-sectional design, aiming to develop and verify the validity evidence of a home literacy instrument for caregivers of children aged zero to three years. The specific objectives are: To construct a home literacy instrument for children in early childhood; to evaluate the content validity of the instrument; to ascertain the criterion validity of the instrument; to verify the construct validity through factorial structure; to investigate the internal consistency and reliability of the instrument. The participants are 100 mothers of children aged zero to three years attending the Anita, located in Macaíba (RN).
The instruments used are: the sociodemographic and health questionnaire and the home literacy questionnaire (Silva and Salgado-Azoni, 2025). The content validity analysis will be performed using the general Content Validity Index (CVI) and item-specific Content Validity Index (CVI-I), while internal consistency will be assessed using Cronbach's alpha index. The collected data will be analyzed using Excel spreadsheet software and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). It is expected that this study will contribute to the construction of knowledge related to home literacy and early childhood development.
