SUMMARY:

Introduction: Satisfaction with care received is a concept that has been studied in patients undergoing palliative care. Objective: To perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the short version of the Canadian Health Care Evaluation Project (CANHELP) instrument for patients undergoing palliative care, from English to Brazilian Portuguese. Method: This was a quantitative, cross-sectional, and analytical methodological study. Conceptual, item, semantic, operational, and measurement equivalences were performed between the original and adapted instruments. In addition, the psychometric properties of the instrument were verified in the new contextual reality. Results: A total of 155 adult cancer patients were included, mostly women (67.74%), up to 60 years old (56.77%), at the ”Onofre Lopes” University Hospital and the “Liga Contra o Câncer” institutions. Information was collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire, the CANHELP and the quality of life instrument –MQOL-Br.
Descriptive and comparative analyses were performed for all variables, with a significance level of 5%. To verify the construct validity, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed, presenting a 4-factor correlation matrix. Regarding the reliability of the overall score of the inventory, it presented a MacDonald Omega index of 0.93. The criterion and convergent validities were also verified through Pearson correlations and MANOVA, respectively. The analysis process with the verification of conceptual, item and semantic equivalences produced a summary version of the  CANHELP. Regarding operational and measurement equivalences, a final synthesis version and a version that was validated for the Brazilian context were prepared. Conclusions: The questionnaire presented satisfactory values of internal consistency, criterion and construct validity, responding to the objective of the study. Thus, it is configured as an analysis instrument for aspects that refer to the satisfaction of cancer patients in the reality of Brazil.
