I WILL NOT BE INTERRUPTED”: AN ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF BLACK PARLIAMENTARIES IN BRAZIL
Black parliamentarians, Political activity, Brazilian situation.
The scars left by slavery still persist in the reality of the black population in Brazil, especially black women who suffer from oppression and exploitation, which has economic, social, and political implications in their lives. Marielle Franco was one of the black women who fought against these violations and has always been a tireless defender of human rights, especially of women and black people. However, her political activity was interrupted in March 2018 when Brazil received news of the murders of her and her driver, Anderson Gomes. Thus, this research is justified by the importance of highlighting the actions of black parliamentarians, even though they still have low representation in institutional spaces in Brazilian politics. Based on the above, we point out that the general objective of this research is to analyze how the actions of black parliamentarians elected in 2018 in Brazil reflect the problems experienced by black Brazilian women. The specific objectives are: To examine how the presence of black parliamentarians elected in Brazil favors the agendas proposed by the black movement and the women's movement; to highlight the main agendas of the proposed bills, hearings and actions and their relationship with the current political moment; to analyze how women from different political fields act together on gender and race issues. The assumptions of materialism and Marxist dialectics were used, as well as readings by authors of the Theory of Social Reproduction and theorists of black feminisms. Initially, the number of proposals presented by parliamentarians in the Legislative Assembly and their thematic blocks were mapped. After that, the proposals that addressed issues related to gender and race were highlighted, in which the fight against domestic violence was highlighted. However, the fight against racism still appears in a small number of proposals. In addition, political gender violence affects the lives of some parliamentarians, especially human rights defenders, which makes it necessary to constantly fight for these women to occupy these spaces.
