Angiosperms of a Periurban Semideciduous Seasonal Forest on a University Campus in Eastern Rio Grande do Norte

This work aimed to characterize the angiosperm flora of the Jundiaí Agricultural School (EAJ/UFRN), in the municipality of Macaíba (RN), through the preparation of a floristic checklist based on field collections and compilation of herbarium records and analysis of composition, species distribution and diversity in different sub-areas of the campus. The data were obtained from consultations with herbarium platforms and submitted to taxonomic curatorship, including nomenclature standardization and removal of duplicates. There were recorded 321 species, distributed in 226 genera and 88 families for the EAJ, with occurrence in the subareas Geral (175 species), Mata do Bebo (121) and Mata do Olho d'Água (67). The most representative families were Fabaceae, Myrtaceae, Rubiaceae, Asteraceae, Malvaceae and Poaceae, while the genera with the highest number of records were Myrcia, Eugenia, Psidium, Utricularia and Erythroxylum. The most frequent species included Myrcia multiflora, Psidium schenckianum, Psidium oligospermum, Erythroxylum simonis and Myrcia guianensis. The distribution of species showed a high proportion of exclusivity, with 279 species (86.9%) occurring in only one sub-area, and only 42 species (13.1%) shared between two or more areas. The General sub-area presented the largest number of unique species (134), followed by Mata do Bebo (90) and Mata do Olho d'Água (55). Jaccard similarity indices indicated low floristic similarity between the subareas, with values ranging from 0.052 to 0.117. The indices of diversity indicated high diversity in the analyzed areas, with differences in species abundance distribution. Thirty-five new occurrences were identified for the state, obtained from this survey. The results demonstrate that the organization of flora is associated with environmental heterogeneity and landscape context. It is concluded that the floristic structure of EAJ is influenced by the variation of local environmental conditions and landscape modification, affecting species distribution and vegetation fragment organization.
