Morphology of Caatinga seedlings applied to forest seed analysis
germination test, semiarid, dry forests, forest restoration.
Given the lack of information about the morphology of seedlings of forest species,
the objective of this research is to characterize seedlings of twenty species native to
the Caatinga in terms of morphological aspects. The study will be carried out through
germination tests and daily observations of seedling structures. Notes and images
will be recorded, from the emission of the radicle to the emergence of leaf primordia,
observing the average time required for each event to occur. The type of germination
and cotyledons of each species will also be checked, as well as the persistence of the
seed coat. This research aims to complement information to contribute to the
updating of the Instructions for Analysis of Seeds of Forest Species of the Ministry
of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and also provide subsidies for studies in the
areas of forest seed technology, plant systematics, natural regeneration , the soil seed
bank and forest restoration programs.
