SUMMARY:

Introduction: Ageism is a complex phenomenon, characterized by stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination directed at people in relation to age, in the institutional, interpersonal or self-directed dimensions. The Family Health Strategy (FHS) is an important scenario to consider this problem, unveiling its determinants and repercussions on health care. Objectives: to address ageism in the FHS from a bioethical and complex perspective; reflect on ageism based on theoretical contributions of Complexity Theory (CT); investigate stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory attitudes related to age, in the context of the FHS, and their repercussions on health care; understand the conceptions of ageism on the part of health professionals, users and managers in the FHS; interpreting ageism in the light of the assumptions of Interventional Bioethics (BI); propose strategies to cope with ageism in the context of the FHS. Methodology: qualitative approach through the Hermeneutic-Dialectical Circle (CHD). Intentional sample composed of professionals, users and managers of FHS health units, in a Brazilian capital, with a repertoire of interactive collective activities through the monitoring of self-care groups, forums on aging and routine planning and/or territorialization workshops. Data collection/construction through emancipatory workshops. Analysis and interpretation of findings by Gadamerian hermeneutics and by CT and BI contributions. Expected Results: to explore the itinerary of ageism in the FHS, to reveal subsidies to cushion its effects, to encourage positive aspects on older people, to expand previous research on the subject in different professional categories to value age diversity at work, to connect the generation of knowledge of social relevance with the local, district and central (municipal) environment; catalyze in-service qualification processes of health teams; Implement meetings between users, professionals and managers to raise awareness, deepen and cope with the problem. Technical/Technological Products: theoretical essays on ageism from the perspective of BI and CT; booklet and/or virtual learning object on the approach to ageism in the FHS territory; empirical article based on the research findings; qualitative scientific methodology article on the research procedures used; Formatting/structuring of a workshop as a tool for the translation of knowledge.
