Instructional Tools for Teaching Discrete and Geometric Probability: With Applications to Stereology
Probability Education, Buffon's Needle, Geometric Probes, Mathematics Teaching, STEM Education
This study proposes innovative approaches to teaching discrete and geometric probability in Basic Education, with a focus on Buffon's Needle experiment and its applications in Mathematics and Life Sciences. The methodologies align with the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) guidelines and the Brazilian National Curriculum Parameters (PCN) for Mathematics education. Key outcomes of this research include a didactic sequence supplemented by instructional materials such as exercise sets, game-based activities, and GeoGebra software integration. The findings demonstrate how hands-on probability experiments can enhance interdisciplinary learning between mathematics and biology.
