SUMMARY:

The field of Public Administration is an academic term used to refer to undergraduate courses in Public Administration, Public Management, Public Policy Management, Social Management, and others that possess an epistemological multiplicity in their formative configurations. In 2014, the study of these intrinsic areas gained a new dimension with the approval of the National Curriculum Guidelines for Public Administration courses. However, public administration education, as a field of knowledge, in Brazil has oscillated between cycles of appreciation and devaluation since 1952. Understanding the historical evolution of Brazilian public administration, including reforms and government agendas, is crucial to assessing the progress of public administration as a field of knowledge. And despite being over sixty years old, public administration education still faces challenges regarding external validation and the construction of academic credentials. These factors highlight the need for social legitimacy in this area. In this context, this dissertation aims to analyze the formative frameworks and curricular arrangements present in the Course Pedagogical Projects (CPPs), focusing on the conceptions of training, collective identity, and multidisciplinarity in nine courses offered by public higher education institutions in the states of Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, and Ceará. The methodology adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach, through a bibliographic review of the theoretical categories of field, collective identity, and multidisciplinarity to assist in the documentary analysis of the courses' pedagogical projects. The results show that the construction of the identity of the Public Field is a complex task, a project in constant negotiation, and the coexistence of multiple identity projects, each with its own narrative, curricular architecture, and conception of praxis, is documentary evidence of this identity fragmentation.
