SUMMARY:

The present research aims to investigate how the discourses produced by Internet Celebrities, in their posts on Instagram, propose an aesthetics of existence. Specifically, we seek to characterize the socio-historical conditions of emergence of the discourses of Internet Celebrities about self-care; reflect on what control devices allow internet celebrities to govern themselves and their followers; to investigate, through media logic, how the self-conduct of internet celebrities is significant for the subjective process of their followers; finally, to analyze the techniques of the self used by Internet Celebrities, in their posts on Instagram, for an aesthetics of existence. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, we dialogued with authors such as Foucault (2010, 2017) who, in its third phase, ethics, turns to truth and subjectivity as a force capable of transforming subjects through techniques of the self. Abidin (2018, 2023), Karhawi (2020), Simoes and Franca (2020), Turner (2010, 2014) helped us in discussions about the socio-historical conditions that, in response to social and discursive movements, support the emergence of Celebrities, Internet Celebrities, Digital Influencers and Creators, for example. Leaver, Highfield, Abidin (2020), Terra (2021), Poell, Nieborg, van Dijck (2020), Grohmann, 2020 and Foucault (2018) allowed us to build a discussion about Instagram, its tools and ways of use, looking at it, mainly, as a platform and a device. We developed a qualitative research, with a bibliographic modality, subsidizing not only the description and interpretation of contemporary realities, but, mainly, a reflexive and critical potentiality that crosses, transforms and reconstructs them. We used, as a theoretical-methodological path, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) with the intention of understanding, through analysis, the discourses of Internet Celebrity Lu Ferreira (@Lutsferreira), in the year 2021, which brought, in the axis of subjectivity and truth, the care of oneself for an exercise of oneself towards oneself and of oneself towards the other.
