SUMMARY:

Chronic wounds represent a multifaceted public health challenge, requiring
patients to understand and apply complex prescriptions alongside a high
burden of self-care in the community setting. In this context, successful
healing presupposes satisfactory levels of health literacy, the inadequacy of
which results in hygiene failures, wound contamination, and the perpetuation
of the inflammatory phase. The nursing diagnosis Inadequate Health
Literacy (00339) is defined by NANDA-I as an unsatisfactory pattern of
obtaining, assessing, and applying basic health information and services
necessary for decision-making. This study aims to analyze the clinical
validity evidence of the nursing diagnosis Inadequate Health Literacy in
individuals with chronic wounds. This is a methodological diagnostic
accuracy study with a cross-sectional design, grounded in the clinical
validation stage of the framework proposed by Lopes and Silva. Data
collection will take place in Primary Health Care Units across the 5th Health
Region of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, involving a sample of
165 adults (aged 18 and older) with chronic wounds. The sample size was
established based on the criterion of 15 subjects per evaluated clinical
indicator, selected via consecutive non-probability sampling. A structured
data collection instrument will be utilized, covering sociodemographic,
clinical, etiological, and diagnostic defining characteristic variables.
Categorical variables will be analyzed using absolute and relative
frequencies, whereas continuous variables will be summarized using
measures of central tendency and dispersion. Diagnostic accuracy
measures (sensitivity and specificity) of the defining characteristics will be
operationalized through Latent Class Analysis with random effects, with
model fit assessed via the likelihood-ratio test (G2

).The study will comply
with the recommendations of Resolution No. 466/12 of the Brazilian National
Health Council and will be reviewed by the Research Ethics Committee of
the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The findings are expected to
provide high levels of empirical evidence to refine the clinical indicators,
promoting the strengthening of the NANDA-I taxonomy. Thus, this study
seeks to support nurses' clinical reasoning in planning and implementing
precise, effective interventions capable of optmizing care and preventing the
exacerbation of chronic wounds.
