SUMMARY:

Frevo is a unique expression of Brazilian culture that intertwines dance, music, and performance, carrying characteristics that transcend the carnival festivities and situating itself within a broader sociocultural context, in dialogue with its historicity. For this research, we selected a frevo that is both conceived and danced, articulated through its energy, playfulness, and above all, its resistance, which drives creative and bodily freedom in the act of making/dancing. To this end, carried by the rhythms of Momo’s trumpets, we bring into this frevo procession references that discuss dance, education, carnival, and heritage, including Cárdenas (1981), Silva (2018), Figueiredo (2019), Freire (1996), Alves (2003), Marques (2007), and IPHAN (2016), who, to the pulse of frevo, let the “vassourinha” resonate in this writing. Finally, we propose a scenic-pedagogical approach that combines a playful and creative methodology for teaching and learning frevo, performing across diverse spaces.
