Dance is a fundamental form of artistic expression in popular culture, playing a crucial role in social communication and the expression of collective meanings and senses. The primary objective of this work was to investigate some of the popular dances in the city of Cabedelo - PB, with the intent of contributing to cultural, historical, and academic production. The research aimed to document these manifestations in written, visual, and poetic forms, integrating accounts from masters and mistresses of the city and expanding the bibliographic collection on Cabedelo's culture, offering a unique perspective of the territory. There was direct contact with the masters in various areas of performance and involvement with popular dance in Cabedelo (PB), a city notably rich in cultural manifestations. The investigative process included visits and in-person interviews, which were fundamental in capturing the essence and evolution of local practices and traditions. The interviews with the masters allowed for the exploration of the origins, techniques, and meanings of popular dances, indicating how these traditions are transmitted and preserved across generations, as well as providing a detailed view of the dynamics and challenges faced by local groups. The study was divided into three distinct chapters. The first chapter addresses the history of Cabedelo, contextualizing the city and its cultural traditions. The second chapter explores dances and cultural resistance, focusing on Coco de Roda, Boi Formoso, and Lapinha, analyzing how these manifestations remain alive and face challenges. The third and final chapter examines the popular dances of Cabedelo from a broader perspective, discussing their role in the cultural identity of the region and the importance of their preservation. Discussing the Popular Dances of Cabedelo (PB) is a challenge that requires a comprehensive and enriching understanding of the city's cultural traditions. The study goes beyond a descriptive look at popular dances and also considers the perspective of those who preserve and transmit them. The various cultural manifestations in the region highlight the importance of popular dances as a vital component of the local cultural identity. This work represents a significant step towards the awareness and recognition of Cabedelo's cultural traditions, providing a foundation for future research and initiatives aimed at promoting and keeping these practices alive, which are essential to the identity and cultural legacy of the region.
