SUMMARY:

The present work aims to understand the city from the analytical category of dissent, using Jacques Rancière as a theoretical starting point. To this end, it is necessary to highlight the construction of landscapes based on cultural practices that conform or oppose a certain social order, with urban models that optimize the control of space to the detriment of socialization increasingly in the background. In this sense, it is possible to think of the cultural manifestation of cinema as an important key to reading the urban scene, given that it has a wide mobilization of imagery instruments, allowing arrangements for readings of the social. The general objective of the work is to analyze how contemporary cinema addresses the dissensions of the modern city through its various uses. To this end, the methodology will be content analysis based on 4 films by filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho (Could RecifeSound around, World Cup in Recife and Aquarius), produced between 2009 and 2016, where the focus is the city of Recife, seeking to dialogue with the proposed objectives. Based on this thematic focus, the research technique will be to decompose the films into images and texts to perform data analysis. With this, the result is expected to be a contribution to thinking about the city as an imaginary representation mediated by cinema, thinking about the appropriations of public spaces through the aesthetic and political dimension, highlighting the elements of analysis of dissent in large cities.
