God’s People Voices: The Influence of Liberation Theology on the Formation of the Workers' Party (PT) in the Cities of the Diocese of Bonfim-BA
Catholic Church; Progressive Church; Catholic Left.
In view of the recurrent increase in violence, unemployment, hunger and poverty in several Latin American countries, throughout the 20th century Latin America gained special attention from the Catholic Church, due to its history and the eminent profession of Catholicism on the continent. The socio-ecclesial movement of Liberation Theology (TL) was born within the Church as a response to social problems on the capitalist periphery. In this movement of transformation, the basis for the formation and performance of a party that also sought to meet popular interests was drawn within the religious core: the Workers' Party (PT), which brought similar concepts to those supported by the TL progressive church. The present work aims to investigate the formation and dissemination of the Workers' Party in the Catholic Church based on the influence of Liberation Theology in municipalities in the Diocese of Bonfim-BA. To reach this end, strategies will be adopted methodologically focused on a qualitative approach, based on a case study, obtaining historical materials and oral testimonies that can make up the documentary collection of the work, since the context in which it is inserted The research will focus on history and social memory. It is understood that, through the speeches and experiences of political-ideological praxis, it is possible to understand the relationships between politics and religion in certain Brazilian municipalities, fostered by the birth and consolidation of a progressive, partisan and liberating church.
