POLISH-BRAZILIAN INTERMEDIATIONS IN MOVEMENT: SOCIO-TECHNICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF POLISHNESS IN ACTION
Polish Descendants; Polishness; Ethnicities; Actor-Network Theory.
The topic of integrative processes of grouping and ethnic assemblages carried out by descendants of immigrants that have settled in Brazil has been an gaining visibility within the social sciences in Brazil. The objective of this thesis was to trace a network of relationships (of ethnic, political, religious or scientific nature, etc.) among Poles, their descendants (Polish-Brazilians) – and so many other human and non-human actors – who have demonstrated repertories of Polish ethnic mobilization in action (polities) through multiple socio-technical networks. In terms of methodology, I opted to use a qualitative approach that correlates ethnographic perspective techniques to ANT (Bruno Latour’s Actor-Network Theory) and to studies on ethnicity. The research process counted on building socio-technical descriptions and made visible – in effect a diverse network of negotiations and recognized ethnic activities – at the interface of diverse environments such as strategic actions from heterogeneous actors, who are also mediators of polities, that promote ethnic processes in the midst of a multifaceted and plural composition of collectivities in Brazil.
