BETWEEN GOALS AND EXHAUSTION: BURNOUT IN THE BANKING SECTOR OF NATAL/RN (2000-2025) - WORKING CONDITIONS AND ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AMONG PROFESSIONALS IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS
Burnout Syndrome; banking sector; working conditions; organizational culture; leadership roles.
The banking sector has undergone profound transformations as a result of productive restructuring, driven by the incorporation of new technologies and organizational innovations. This process has led to the increasing computerization of banking activities and the intensification of work demands, marked by excessive pressure to meet performance targets, the expansion of job responsibilities, and prolonged working hours. These conditions constitute an environment conducive to the development of Burnout Syndrome (BS), characterized by physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by chronic occupational stress. In light of this context, this research aims to investigate the influence of working conditions in the banking sector on the development of Burnout Syndrome among professionals in leadership positions during the period from 2000 to 2025. To this end, the study seeks to map the predominant psychosocial risk factors within the sector, analyze the profile of the affected professionals, and understand the interrelationship between their life dynamics and the work environment. Furthermore, the research intends to identify the cultural practices and symbolic relations embedded in the banking organizational culture that contribute to psychological distress. The ultimate goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impacts of structural transformations on workers’ mental health and their implications for well-being and productivity within the sector.
