SUMMARY:

The thesis will present an analysis of the electoral profile of the candidates and the financing of electoral campaigns for the position of State Deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Norte, in the elections that run from 2002 to 2018. After analyzing the research and publications on the topic, a gap was observed regarding the study of the decision-making process in legislative houses and the financing of state deputies, since research and doctoral theses are mostly centered on national institutions. Initially, this configures the original character of the thesis so that data relating to the financing of state deputies' campaigns in the State can be researched and presented. Regarding campaign financing, after the elections, research carried out by Speck (2002, 2010, 2011, 2016), Marenco (2008), Mancuso (2007; 2015; 2017a; 2017b), exposes the effects of corporate donations on the parliamentary performance of elected deputies. In the broader analysis of these authors, the influence of financing can affect the process of formulating public policies, parliamentary amendments, legislation, public contracts and even legislative omission in addressing certain topics that may conflict with agreements. already agreed upon in the pre-election stage. Three profiles are presented and demonstrate how the electoral success of elected deputies occurs. The first profile, of the candidate for re-election, is the one who held the position of state deputy in ALRN in the previous term, who has the strength of the mandate, the resources, the visibility of the position, the proximity to the voter in the last four years . The second profile, the high-quality candidate, is one who has already held a political position, whether as a state deputy in previous legislatures, or as a federal deputy, senator, governor, councilor or mayor. Furthermore, positions such as: municipal and state secretary, president of a political party, president of a union, children of well-known politicians in the state, are also part of this profile, as they already have political visibility. Finally, the third profile, the novice candidate, is the one who runs for the position for the first time or several other times, the one who has never had any political role or even, as is more common, the one who runs for the position of councilor several times. in Natal and who never obtain a significant number of votes.
