DEMOCRACY IN ANCIENT GREECE AND IN THE LABOR MOVEMENT: ARTICULATION OF DIFFERENT AUTONOMY PROJECTS IN THE WORK OF CORNELIUS CASTORIADIS
Autonomy. Ancient Greek Democracy. Labor Movement. Social Imaginary. Cornelius Castoriadis.
This text presents main reflective elements of Cornelius Castoriadis concerning the relationship between ancient greek democracy and european labor movement for formation of project of autonomy. The main objective of research is to elucidate belonging of ancient greek democracy and of european labor movement to same project of autonomy proposed by Cornelius Castoriadis. To understand how the project of autonomy was constructed throughout western history, following questions arise: What is working class? What is originality of project of autonomy? What is the contribution of the project of autonomy of Ancient Greece to socialist theory? The answer to these questions shows that notion of contemporary autonomy in labor movement assimilates and transcends the greek legacy by demanding universal emancipation through the end of social classes. It is demonstrated that the notion of contemporary autonomy expresses a synthesis of classic democratic and socialist traditions.
