The authors focusing on this work have on the horizon of their concerns the problem of the relation art and society as central. The two thinkers, each one in his intellectual environment, inserted themselves into the debate seeking to escape from the dominant conceptions, which means to propose a theoretical model halfway to aesthetics and sociologism, reaching, by different paths, a position that we call here Synthetic. In this way, the objective of this research is, in taking two authors who have in their respective theoretical projects an intense traffic between literature and sociology and who dialogue deeply with Western Marxism, such as Antônio Candido and Raymond Williams, to make contributions to the aforementioned methodological debate In the field of sociological analysis of art/literature. We will try to explain how the theoretical-methodological programs were constructed and how the analyses carried out by each one of them were carried out, so as to weigh the approximations and the distances, and to evaluate what type of society view they construct.
