SUMMARY:

The study area is located in the northeastern sector of the Brazilian Equatorial Margin (MEB), adjacent to Cabo Calcanhar (RN), encompassing depths between 100 and 2,000 m in the continental slope of the Potiguar Basin. This region remains under-investigated, despite its importance for understanding the sedimentary and structural processes that control sediment transfer between the continental shelf and the ocean basin. This work aims to characterize the geomorphology of the slope through the processing and analysis of multibeam bathymetric data acquired during the Pro Amazônia Azul 2022 Commission, aboard the Hydro-oceanographic Vessel Vital de Oliveira. The processing was performed using CARIS HIPS & SIPS 11 software, involving acoustic corrections, sensor calibration (Patch Test), removal of spurious data, and generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM). The derived products allowed the identification of four main submarine canyons (A, B, C, and D), in addition to ravines, terraces, landslide scars, and areas of gravity instability. The canyons have lengths between 18 and 22 km, continuous thalwegs, and marked variations in slope (0°–32°), reflecting the combined action of erosive and depositional processes and structural controls inherited from the Potiguar Basin. The results obtained contribute to the advancement of knowledge about the morphology of the MEB slope and provide relevant support for geological and oceanographic studies and applications related to the planning of offshore activities.
