SUMMARY:

This qualification project proposes the construction of a three-dimensional (3D) geological model of the sedimentary succession of the Tombador Formation in the Pai Inácio Anticline, Chapada Diamantina (BA). Despite many sedimentological, stratigraphic, and structural studies in the region, there is still no integrated 3D geological model that adequately represents the depositional architecture and stratigraphic connectivity of the previously identified third-order sequences (Magalhães, 2015; Magalhães et al., 2016, 2017). This gap limits the understanding of the heterogeneity and lateral continuity of the sandy bodies at the scale of petroleum reservoirs. The overall objective of the study is to integrate field data, Digital Outcrop Models (DAMs), vertical lithological profiles, gamma ray (GR) profiles, and GPR sections to generate a 3D geological model that represents the sedimentary succession of the lower portion of the Tombador Formation. Specific objectives include: (i) description and interpretation of facies and architectural elements in vertical profiles; (ii) acquisition, processing, and interpretation of GPR lines; (iii) generation of high-resolution DEMs by SfM-MVS photogrammetry; and (iv) integration of the different datasets in a modeling environment (MOVE, Petrel, Agisoft Metashape, Cloud Compare). The surveys already carried out resulted in the acquisition of more than 23,000 photographs in 153 flights, covering fifteen main outcrops, in addition to the compilation of 6.8 km of previously acquired GPR lines. Complementary campaigns are planned to complete the full coverage of the key outcrops. The methodology adopted is based on recent advances in digital geology, short-range remote sensing, and 3D modeling, allowing the extraction of geometric and stratigraphic parameters with sub-meter precision in areas of difficult access. The study expects the following results: (1) high-resolution DEMs for the key outcrops; (2) integration of structural, sedimentary, and geophysical data into a coherent 3D geological model; (3) representation of the stratigraphic architecture and bounding surfaces of the five third-order sequences; (4) constructing a 3D geological model of a third-order sequence, detailing the fourth-order sequences; and (5) distributing the depositional facies associations and their petrophysical properties of the fourth-order sequences to develop a static model analogous to that of reservoirs in a similar geological context. With this, the project contributes to the advancement of quantitative approaches in high-resolution stratigraphy and to the consolidation of 3D geological modeling techniques applicable in reservoir studies, teaching, and research in geosciences.
