SUMMARY:

Sleep deprivation among adolescents is an increasingly prevalent issue,
driven by excessive use of electronic devices, academic overload, and
school schedules misaligned with the biological rhythms of youth. This
scenario directly affects mental health, cognitive performance, and
social functioning. In this context, the present study aims to investigate
the impact of sleep quality on the biopsychosocial well-being of
students in regular education, comparing morning and afternoon school
shifts. This is an observational, longitudinal, and comparative study involving
60 adolescents aged 13 to 16 enrolled in a private school in Campina
Grande, Brazil. Objective sleep data will be collected using actigraphy
for nine consecutive days, in combination with validated instruments
(ESS, PSQI, SAS-SV, PSS, and MCTQ). Statistical analysis will
include ANOVA, correlations, and regression models, adopting a 5%
significance level.
The study is justified by the need to support educational policies that
respect adolescents' chronotypes, fostering school practices that are
more attuned to their physiological needs. It is expected to identify
significant differences between school shifts in terms of sleep quality
and its consequences on mental health, smartphone use, stress, and
academic performance. Future perspectives include using the findings
to inform educational and public health interventions aimed at
improving sleep hygiene and promoting the overall development of
adolescents.
