SUMMARY:

Coastal zones constitute complex morphodynamic systems, characterized by continuous interaction between continental and marine processes, which control the evolution of the coastline across different spatio-temporal scales. In pocket beaches, coastal dynamics are strongly conditioned by the cove's geometry and structural elements, such as headlands, which modulate wave propagation through refraction and diffraction, establishing longitudinal energy gradients and controlling sediment transport. The equilibrium of these systems results from the adjustment between hydrodynamic forcings, sediment availability, and geomorphological constraints (Wright; Short, 1984; Hsu; Evans, 1989; Woodroffe, 2003). In this context, the present research aims to evaluate the geomorphological equilibrium conditions of Praia do Madeiro, located in the Pipa district, municipality of Tibau do Sul (RN), through the integration of bay planimetric modeling and morphodynamic parameters. It seeks to understand the relationships between coastline geometry, sedimentary processes, and the beach's morphological configuration, with a view to identifying the system's equilibrium state and the factors conditioning its stability. The adopted methodology is based on an integrated approach, combining modeling of the bay's planimetric shape with morphodynamic parameters. Planimetric modeling is carried out by applying the Equilibrium Parabolic Model (Hsu; Evans, 1989), operationalized by the MEPBAY® software (Klein et al., 2003), using satellite imagery to interpret the theoretical coastline curvature and classify equilibrium states (static, dynamic, unstable condition, or natural remodeling). Concurrently, morphodynamic parameters are analyzed from seasonal monitoring of beach profiles, obtained through topographic surveys with a GNSS receiver in RTK mode, conducted under spring tide conditions. The data were post-processed in IBGE-PPP, in conjunction with Topcon software, and integrated with analyses of sediment granulometric properties (Folk; Ward, 1957) and interpretation of hydrodynamic forcings, such as waves and longshore currents (Komar, 1998; Dean; Dalrymple, 2002). As expected results, the study intends to identify spatial and seasonal patterns of erosion, deposition, and stability along the cove, based on the characterization of the morphosedimentary dynamics and the variation of topographic profiles under the influence of hydrodynamic forcings and longitudinal sediment transport.
