SUMMARY:

This thesis investigates the retreat of active coastal cliffs of the Barreiras Formation in Tibau do Sul (RN), along the segment between Praia do Centro and Baía dos Golfinhos (1.2 km). Grounded in classical and process-based geomorphological frameworks — with emphasis on dynamic equilibrium and spatio-temporal scale — it adopts a multiproxy approach to capture short-term responses. The methodology integrates: beach profiles surveyed with GNSS RTK; aerial photogrammetry/LiDAR for orthomosaics and elevation models; sedimentological analyses (grain size in Φ, organic matter and carbonate); and metocean series (waves, winds, and rainfall). The morphodynamic diagnosis employs Dean’s Ω (omega) parameter and the interpretation of beach features (berm, swash zone, nearshore), combined with geological control (abrasion terrace). Partial results show contrasts between two sectors presented in detail: at Point 1 (Baía dos Golfinhos), persistence of a dissipative state, berm suppression from September onward, and textural fining, consistent with profile lowering under higher incident energy; at Point 6 (Praia do Centro), reflective predominance with TBM episodes and confinement of the sandy prism conditioned by the abrasion terrace, with fining and volumetric reduction during high tides. Observations on the scarp (erosional embayments, talus deposits, lateritic blocks, fractures) confirm localized instability consistent with the friable lithology and metocean exposure. It is noted that results have also been produced for the remaining points, which will be integrated in the multitemporal consolidation. The synthesis aims to map sectors of greater retreat/instability using the multiproxy approach as support for planning, territorial management, and the classification of mass-movement types in cliff areas.
