SUMMARY:

This project aims to analyze the feasibility of using a sign language learning path, based on the STEAM approach, for teaching Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) as a first language (L1) to deaf children in early childhood education. It proposes the development of this path, organized around the field of experience "lines, sounds/visuality, colors and shapes," according to the Brazilian National Curriculum Base (BNCC), suggesting the addition of the term "visuality" to the original field "lines, sounds, colors and shapes," in order to value the visuospatial aspect of deaf children's learning. By using the STEAM approach, the aim is to make teaching more accessible, contextualized, transdisciplinary, and playful. The theoretical foundation will be built upon the analysis of scientific publications that address the relationships between Libras and early childhood education, Libras and the BNCC, and Libras and STEAM. The choice of these themes stems from the fact that, in addition to being essential for guiding the development of the learning path, they directly relate to the hypothesis of this research, namely: the use of a learning path signed in Libras (Brazilian Sign Language), developed based on the STEAM approach and the learning objectives of the "traits, sounds/visuality, colors and shapes" field of the BNCC (Brazilian National Curriculum Base), contributes to the promotion of more accessible, meaningful and engaging pedagogical practices for deaf children in Early Childhood Education, favoring their linguistic and cognitive development in bilingual contexts. In this sense, the theoretical framework converges with the analyses proposed in this project. Regarding the methodology, this is an action research with a qualitative approach, grounded in the interpretative paradigm. This methodological choice aligns with the objective of collaboratively developing a signed learning path for teaching Libras as L1 (first language), based on the experiences and knowledge of deaf teachers about practice in bilingual Early Childhood Education. Action research presupposes the active participation of these professionals as co-authors and researchers in the investigative process, contributing both to critical analysis and to the development and refinement of the educational product. The proposal values the collective construction of knowledge, considering the real contexts of practice and the challenges faced in daily school life. The research will be organized in four stages: (1) literature review, focusing on the themes “Brazilian Sign Language and Early Childhood Education”, “Brazilian Sign Language and BNCC” and “Brazilian Sign Language and STEAM”; (2) listening to and analysis of bilingual pedagogical practices, through reflective records and interviews with the participating deaf teachers; (3) collaborative development of the educational product, a signed learning path for teaching Brazilian Sign Language as L1, structured from the learning and development objectives of the BNCC in the field of experiences “traces, sounds/visuality, colors and forms”; and (4) validation and refinement of the path, based on collective critical analysis, from the evidence produced throughout the research. The results will be systematized and disseminated through publications and events, contributing to the strengthening of more accessible, meaningful, and bilingual pedagogical practices in Early Childhood Education.
