Periferias e Juventudes: a atuação do Movimento Social Fome em Sobral/CE
Social movement; Periphery; Youth.
The research aims to study a social movement active in three neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city of Sobral-CE, called Movimento Social Fome. This collective emerged in 2013, through the organization of young residents of this territory who participated in a street theater group. Its main objective was to outline survival strategies in the midst of a scenario of violence and its main agenda is the various existing hungers in peripheral neighborhoods, such as the lack of public policies, culture and education. Currently, its main actions are the Batalha do TN, the construction of the Adalberto Mendes Community Library, the Ambulante Library, the Cine Mucambim and Miss Perifa. I will address these actions and their characteristics, as well as issues related to the challenges of social militancy and leisure production. I will also discuss the actions taken in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, which aimed to inform the population about the virus and food distribution to families in socioeconomic vulnerability. In this way, the themes addressed will focus on categories such as youth, childhood, social militancy, public policies, leisure, non-formal education and collective care. In order to carry out such discussions, interviews, informal conversations, excerpts from the social movement's own podcast are being used, in addition to participant observation.
